Leap of Faith: Search for Sartorial Pairings on kickstarter

Last night Ignacio took a leap of faith. No he didn’t jump off the roof. But it sort of felt like it.

We had a soft opening gathering for QP & Monty at our new space on Perry Street. In case you haven’t heard Ignacio has had a long-held dream to open a haberdashery and build a menswear line. Opening our space on Perry Street at Greenwich Avenue fulfills the first part of that dream.

Now he has put the plans in motion to fulfill the second part, which is to establish a new menswear brand called Sartorial Pairings. That’s where the leap of faith came in – last night at 7:00pm Ignacio hit the launch button on our kickstarter campaign for Sartorial Pairings. It takes a lot of faith and an ability to overcome your fear of failure to embark on a 30-day-raise-it-all-or-gain-nothing fundraising campaign. But Ignacio has faith in abundance and neither of us fears failure anymore.

So with confidence in our brand we ask for your help.

Please make Ignacio’s dream come true by supporting our kickstarter campaign. By searching for Sartorial Pairings on kickstarter.com you will find a video in which Ignacio speaks from his heart about the brand and his dreams. And you will also learn the 411 about our vests, fobs and chains.

After reviewing all the details, please put in an advance order for one of them. Or, if you are not ready to purchase one now, you can choose another reward at a lower level. We have some very cool screen savers for any size gift and a one of a kind pocket square for only $25.

Most importantly you will receive our undying gratitude and the satisfaction of helping support manufacturing in New York City.

Embracing Failure. Letting Go. What a Beautiful Day!

This is a big year for QP & Monty.

First Ignacio was selected as one of seven participants in Failure Club, Morgan Spurlock’s new collaboration with yahoo screen. For the past five months he and his friends Gina, Liz, Elizabeth, Eric, Meg and Jessie have been working hard to achieve lifelong dreams while the cameras document them embracing every failure along the way. (By the way Ignacio’s dream is to open a haberdashery and launch a capsule collection of menswear and accessories.) Then we were welcomed into the Manhattan Vintage Show and on top of all that we opened a seven day a week pop up shop within Chelsea Market.

Clearly we’ve been working hard – Ignacio designed a vest and bow tie and had the patterns made for each, we debuted at the Manhattan Vintage Show in February and will be there again tomorrow, and we’re prepping to launch a Kickstarter campaign next month.

This was a big day for Ignacio.

He put his vision into the hands of his talented new friends Art Director and Brand Expert Ray Marrero and Photographer Oriana DeAmicis. He met Ray at Artists & Fleas in Williamsburg and Oriana saw Ignacio on Failure Club and contacted him through this blog. They all got together today and put their creative talents on the line for Ignacio’s dream. He told me it was exciting, but oh my waiting, waiting, waiting. . .it’s hard.

I was at work and couldn’t even be a bystander at the photo shoot. It was my job to refrain from calling every five minutes. It was Ignacio’s job to let go. He wanted to to make all the decisions. His mind was racing. . . Can we do it like this? Or like that?  But he told himself. . . breathe, wait, breathe. . .let go. . .don’t try to control the show.

Nervous, nail biting, butterflies inside. . .dry mouth, palpitating heart. . .

But at the end of the day he’s so proud that we  – QP & Monty and our production team led by Ray and Oriana complimented by Oriana’s fiance and our spectacular model Dan – created some amazing images! We now have the material we desperately needed for our marketing and Kickstarter collateral.

For Ignacio the experience was a personal growing one . . . he relinquished total control of his vest and fobs. Photographing, modeling, styling. . .all out of his hands. He especially wants to express his gratitude to his assistant for the day Nicholas Sinatra. His professionalism and ability to keep Ignacio in step and on time were much much appreciated.

And to top it off Morgan Spurlock’s crew documented it all for posterity.

What a beautiful day!

Save the Date Manhattan Vintage Show February 3 & 4

Please mark your calendars. . .Ignacio is prepping for our inaugural outing at the Manhattan Vintage Show on Friday and Saturday February 3 and 4. In November he visited Manhattan Vintage’s first men’s show and was truly inspired.

Now the time has come for the Winter/Spring 2012 show. . .and we’ll be there with a curated collection of menswear and an assortment of women’s accessories. Plus it wouldn’t be an event without a few truly special pieces such as an amazing 1970’s Giorgio Sant’ Angelo metallic and green silk evening gown we’ve been holding onto for just the right audience.

New Year. . . New Projects: Please Join Ignacio Friday January 20, 2012 for his Sartorial Essentials 101 Class

We’ve been busy diving head first into the New Year with projects galore. Ignacio is being followed by Morgan Spurlock’s Failure Club camera crew, I’m working a kickstarter campaign for our men’s jewelry line, and we are both gearing up for a soon to be announced Spring Market. In the meantime Ignacio’s fellow Failure Club member and friend Gina helped him work on a vision statement for QP & Monty:

“What does it mean to have real style? To live in as well as communicate a look that truly defines you?

At QP & Monty we believe developing your signature style should be a wonderful journey. And we’re here to accompany you.

We specialize in curating and creating vintage and vintage-inspired pieces that impart the wearer with elegance and panache. That hearken back to a time when dressing well was practically mandatory. When you chose what you wore not just for you, but also to be seen and admired.

Whether you are looking for single piece or an entire outfit, a vintage vest or a fedora, a pocket square or cufflinks, Sartorial Pairings, aka Ignacio Quiles, can help you build a personal style based on pieces that inspire you, suit you and flatter you.

Enjoy what you wear. Wear what you enjoy. Then go out and show the world exactly what you’re made of.”

If this philosophy resonates with you, you will enjoy Ignacio’s upcoming Skillshare class at Wix Lounge. For just $10 you’ll learn all about shirt and tie maintenance and you’ll receive a free vintage tie bar!!

If you can’t make it to the class be sure to check out wixlounge.com to learn about their free co-working space near Union Square and if you are looking for an easy-to-use website builder wix.com can’t be beat!

It’s feeling a lot like Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza . . . Need We Say More?

We’re putting on our top hats and kicking up our heels.

QP & Monty will still be camped out in Manhattan’s Chelsea Market all next week. So please join us in Manhattan or Brooklyn where we stand ready to help with all your holiday hostess gifts and New Year’s Eve party duds.

Ignacio has especially curated a great collection of cufflinks and tie bars for all the guys on your list! And he some great tuxes too. So Merry Christmas and to all a good night!

We’ll see you in Chelsea on Monday.

Snow Today Parka Tomorrow

Who knew it would snow before Halloween. Hopefully it will warm up a little on Monday so all the kids and kids at heart won’t have to cover their costumes. In the meantime Ignacio has been working hard at Artists and Fleas rearranging and restocking the shop. This photo is about a week old.

If you stop by Williamsburg today or tomorrow to see him you’ll find an impressive selection of flannel including vintage Woolrich and Pendleton shirts and jackets. Not to mention the amazing vintage military parkas — you’ll regret missing out on these!!

Fall Fashion Forecast: Hats Are Us!

Stop by Artists and Fleas over the weekend for a fresh new crop of hats. Not to mention scarves, vests, jackets and all the other accessories that will help transition your summer wardrobe into the cooler days to come.
